PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES

Call to Order:

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm.

Roll Call:

Present: Chair Steve Guilliams, Cm. Tim Shibahara, Cm. Dianna Turk, Cm. Zoe Miller.

Absent: Cm. Tim Arnold, Cm. Dennis Dahrens, Cr. Becky Arnold.

Guests: Dave Piper, Randy Ealy, Barb Bartel.

Approve March 26, 2008 Minutes:

Cm. Shibahara moved to approve the minutes as presented, Cm. Miller seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Citizen’s Concerns & Comments:

City Council Liaison Report: City Council Liaison absent, no report.

Commission Business:

Wade Creek Park Grand Opening/Dedication:

Cm. Miller will take care of food.

Cm. Turk is in charge of kids crafts and face painting.

CM Ealy will secure animal characters; Y&E property; sign advertisements; public and speaker invites; and prepare talking points.

Cm Shibahara and Cm Guilliams will work on layout for event.

Cm Guilliams will secure city stage and figure out electricity.

Cm. Dahrens will be asked to bring birdhouse kits.

Paver forms will be available at the event.

Cm Shibahara will transport tables and chairs.

Wade Creek Park Rules:

Chair Guilliams will ask a couple members to meet with CM Ealy and the City staff on what signage they want to pursue, in terms of park rules.

Official Naming of the Park:

Cm. Turk made a motion to recommend to the City Council that the official name be Wade Creek Park. Cm. Miller seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Skate Park Fundraising Ideas:

Discussion on the merits of buying the Y&E property and leveraging it for the skate park project as match.

CM Ealy will seek first right of refusal contract with owners.

There were none.

Commissioners have been getting comments about the slide safety.
