Librarian’s Report:
Katinka presented the statistics for the month of June. Year
end (almost) library revenue/expenses ledger was examined. It was decided to
take a closer look next budget cycle at the few personnel costs that were
over-budgeted. Katinka will work with Denise to ensure beginning cash balance
is accurate in the future.
Current county distribution for FY 08-09 is $309,000.
She shared the public hearing announcement regarding the
county commissioner’s meeting on the library district August 7th at 10 a.m.-
please attend if you have time.
Old Business:
- Katinka
will get the new language from the City Code as it pertains to the library
board for inclusion in the bylaws and policies.
- Ms.
Mahan reported that the Friends of the Library had an issue at the Book
Nook. She will attend a Foundation meeting to discuss options. Margaret
has put together a gardening wheelbarrow to raffle and has earned over
$485 already!
- Senior
Library Specialist position is still waiting to be approved by City
Council. Katinka will resend to Denise.
- There
was discussion on the impact of a possible failure of the library district
vote. The Board is comfortable with their earlier recommendation to close
Monday and to reduce collection development evenly over all areas. They
felt that staffing costs were in line with other libraries. There was
discussion on increasing volunteer hours and strategies to do so; Suzanne
felt that volunteers are very helpful but cannot reliably replace staff.
New Business:
- There
was discussion on the fact that County
Counsel has determined
that Estacada’s existing library district can coexist with the proposed
county-wide library district.
- Malana
made a motion to cancel the August meeting, Margaret second, it passed
unanimously.
